Spring Chicken – Coral Gables
Project: Spring Chicken Year: 2015 Locally-owned fast casual restaurant Spring Chicken values Southern hospitality and natural, organically sourced food. For their flagship location in Coral Gables, Surface Workshop completed millwork, metalwork and upholstery for the restaurant. In the main dining area Surface Workshop built the condiment station with unique shelves floating from the ceiling. Other elements by Surface Workshop include counter and tabletops throughout the dining area and kitchen, as well as upholstered banquettes and dining benches. The use of distressed and finely finished wood provide a rustic ambience for the fledgling, new restaurant concept. Surface Workshop continues to work with Spring Chicken, and completed work for their Fort Lauderdale location.
South Beach Condo
Project: Continuum Condo in South Beach Year: 2015 This residential project included the creation and implementation of multiple original furnishings and millwork comprised primarily of premium oak and lacquer. Surface Workshop built, finished and installed many elements throughout the home, including furnishings such as the living room set, dresser and nightstands, and vanities. A rich espresso finish unites much of the home's furniture and millwork. The foyer, for example, includes a sculptural floating console and mirror. The wood finish on the console matches that of the elevator doors and frames, and continues into the living room. A custom built closet features white lacquer with original metal accents and recessed LED lights. The central structural column in the condominium's living area also features custom designed and fabricated LED lighting at its base and…
Weston Residence
Project: Weston Residence Year: 2014 This residential project featured the extensive use of premium finished oak and sandblasted granite, providing the home with a richness of textures. The patron (whose son is an artist) consulted with Surface Workshop and the architect in the selection of materials and color palettes, creating unique and unified spaces throughout the light-filled and airy house. Drawing inspiration from the total designs of artist, designer and architect Gio Ponti, the textures of the materials are often accompanied by geometric tiling and gestural light fixtures. Surface Workshop conducted extensive work on the kitchen and bar, as well as several vanities throughout the house. Details include the implementation of the sandblasted granite along interior window ledges.

Custom Bedroom Design
For this custom bedroom design, we are building his and hers floating cabinets on either side of a king size bed. The bed will have an upholstered headboard with the fabric panel to be removable for future bedroom makeovers. A narrow bench is integrated at the foot of the bed to serve as place to iron clothing and put on shoes. Storage all along the underside of the bed gives additional storage for this modern condo with minimal closet space. All the pieces are to be finished in a white lacquer and have flat modern style doors. The 3D modelling and renderings allow for efficient space planning.
The greenest, techiest classroom
When I was growing up, we only had computers in the library and technology was only slightly integrated with the classroom curriculum. Most of our learning was done in the traditional way, with all the little desks facing towards a whiteboard on which the teacher wrote out the lessons while we sat there writing in our little notebooks. Nowadays, schools are taking advantage of technology and collaborative learning techniques to make school more exciting. We recently worked with local architecture firm Touzet Studio on a prototype for an eco-friendly, technology driven classroom at St. Thomas Episcopal School in Coral Gables. We built new sustainable furniture using formaldehyde free, low voc materials. We decided to use laminate so it could stand up to the wear and tear of the busy classroom.…
